Cardio
Cardiovascular exercise is any repetitive movement of the large muscle groups which challenges the cardiovascular system and elevates the heart rate for a prolonged period of time (such as jogging and cycling).
Consistently doing cardio exercise contributes to many desirable results, including improved circulation, increased metabolism and energy levels, decreased body fat, superior endurance and sports performance, improved mental focus (due to increased blood flow to the brain), and a decreased risk of heart attack, depression, stroke, and Type 2 Diabetes; just to name some of the benefits.
Some of the aspects Tania focuses on when designing a cardio program include: the type of exercise, the duration, the frequency, the intensity, and the client’s personal preference.
Type of Cardio: Tania will help you determine which type will get you to your goal most efficiently. For example, if your goal is body fat reduction, she would recommed the type of cardio that would burn the most fat. You can try a new class, or if you’re not into classes, you may choose to use a cardio machine or to participate in fun and rewarding outdoor activities.
Duration and Frequency: The duration and frequency are determined by your goals, schedule, and fitness level. As you improve, the duration and frequency may be increased.
Intensity: The intensity is determined after calculating the client’s optimal heart rate zone. A client’s optimal heart rate zone is number of heart beats per minute that is most conducive to that client’s goal. To calculate this Tania uses the client’s resting heart rate, age, exercise history, and goal.
Personal Preference: Tania knows that if you don’t find a type of cardio you enjoy, you are far less likely to stick with it. There are a lot of ways to make cardio more enjoyable…… like trying a new class, going outdoors, bringing music, etc. She’ll help you figure out what you love and encourage you to try new things that are appropriate for your ability.
